New homes are being built in the Totally Modular factory. These eco-friendly and sustainable homes made BBC headlines, creating affordable and sustainable living accommodations for the local community in Coventry.
The story was aired live on BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire (BBC CWR) in the morning of August 18, 2021.
Richard Whittaker (Director of Development at Citizen) was interviewed by reporter Nishal Chauhan, who visited the Totally Modular factory, about the extended modular pilot scheme.
“These homes will be the first of our new modular homes for Coventry, of which there will be 24 in total for this scheme, with energy performance standards being as high as you can get.”
He went on to say:
“In terms of affordable housing, these are the highest performing energy efficient houses we have ever delivered.”
The homes have an ‘A-Rated’ energy performance, putting them in the top 1% for energy efficiency, with running costs being as little as approximately £1.48 per day.
John Connolly (Managing Director of Totally Modular) spoke live about the partnership and the modular homes coming to Coventry, addressing the increasing housing crisis.
“Due to the housing shortage, people have got to consider alternatives to meet the demand of the up-stock for the UK.”
“We are working with Citizen housing, Coventry City Council and Homes England, delivering homes on disused garage sites, and adding to the stock of housing available to the Citizens of Coventry.”
Totally Modular are supplying these homes as a full turnkey solution, transforming the currently redundant infill sites, suffering from blight, into a variety of highly energy efficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable homes.
The partnership is looking to replicate their success with these new homes, as the pilot scheme achieved a multitude of accolades.
The homes will range from one-bedroom bungalows to four-bedroom homes with developments situated at current garage infill sites, which are located throughout the West Midlands on existing brownfield land.
